The latest banned magazine ads by Britain's Advertising Standards Authority are foundation products made by L'Oreal's Maybelline and Lancôme brands.

Britain's Advertising Standards Agency issued the ban after politician Jo Swinson complained about the two ads which featured "Pretty Woman" actress Julia Roberts and supermodel Christy Turlington.

Lancome new product called Teint Miracle foundation features the flawless face of Academy-award actress Julia Roberts. The Eraser by Maybelline is promoted by American model Christy Turlington.

The reason is the ads are misleading because of excessive airbrushing or too much retouching on the celebrities' faces in the ads.

As reported, L'Oreal admitted the photo used had been digitally manipulated and retouched.

These days most of the model faces used in glamor ads are heavily touched-up and digitally manipulation to make “overly perfected and unrealistic images”; especially the face and the body of female model or talent.[image:latimes.com]

The banned TV commercial starts off with a dark-curly hair Arab-looking guy wearing a pair of sunglasses and the traditional Arab men scarf called a keffiyeh around his neck. Yes, that is the traditional checkered pattern scarf that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad.

He walks into his Volkswagen Polo and drives off. When he reaches a sidewalk cafe, he stops his car and he detonates a bomb, killing himself. A typical scenario of a suicide bomber blowing himself up near a crowded sidewalk cafe. Watch and be blown away by this suicidal idea!

Banned Posters: Stansted Express 35 Minutes To London

The Stansted Express posters put up at Stansted Airport have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) because the message on the posters imply that its train could reach central London in 35 minutes.

The banned posters, with the text "Train to London 35 minutes" together with images of the capital. It is noted that the journey to central London took about 45 minutes. So, ASA ruled that the advert was likely to mislead passengers. One person had complained that the advert was misleading.

But according to National Express which runs the Stansted service, the use of tourist landmarks was intended to communicate a simple message of train services to London. Its spokesman said that international passengers arriving at the airport made up 58% of the train's business, many of whom did not speak or understand fluent English.

Well, anyway ASA said that the simplicity of the message could potentially confuse visitors about where in the city they would get to in 35 minutes. The banned posters are simple, but simply confusing too. [source: bbc.co.uk]

One of my favorite banned TV commercials. The Levis 501 Original Jeans commercial. It starts off with a car screechingto a halt outside the public bathroom of a petrol kiosk. The female driver with a pair of big dark glasses in a trench coat gets out of the car and rushes into the ladies carrying a bag full of cash. Yes, she looks like a typical broad from one of those Hollywood movies, getting away from a crime scene.

Inside the bathroom, she sees a young black man sitting outside the compartments who just drops his cane. But actually this "blind man" is waiting for an elderly blind man who is inside one of the compartments. But thinking that the young black guy is blind, she starts to remove her blonde wig, glasses, washes away her makeup strips off her trench coat except in her black bras and white panties. She quickly changes into a blouse and slips into her pair of button-up Levis Jeans.

This is one of those banned TV commercials which is creative and funny.

Banned Adverts: NH Hotel For Sexualising Children

Here is another one of those banned adverts. This time is an internet banner ad showing a young girl posing in a bikini with her hand on her hip for Spanish NH Hotel and holiday group chain.

It has to be taken off after one person complained because it showed a young girl in a sexually provocative pose. The banned advert featured an adult woman appearing alongside a young girl, both wearing bikinis, under the headline: "The Organisers. Operation Bikini".

The campaign ran on lastminute.com with the strapline. According to NH Hoteles said that the image was part of a wider campaign, called Verano the Organisers, and the ad was about summer holiday reservations.

The ASA said that the young girl in the banned adverts was not shown in a "typical holiday scenario appropriate for her age". It was considered that the image was likely to be seen to sexualise children in an irresponsible manner and therefore to cause offence.

Here is another one of those banned adverts from U.K.. This time is a “provocative” fashion advert for American Apparel featuring a 23 year-old model who looked like a child and she exposed part of her nipple.

The banned adverts featured on the back cover of Vice magazine. The headline says: "FLEXFLEECE Ryan wears the classic unisex Flex Fleece zip hoody ...". Below were two rows each consisting of three photographs of a young looking girl wearing the hoody and looking directly at the camera. In the first row, she was wearing the hoody zipped up and appeared to be wearing underpants.

In the second row, she was wearing the hoody unzipped and was naked underneath. She was wearing underpants. In the last photograph, her left nipple was partially exposed.

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) said that the advert has to banned because the female model appeared under the age of 16. This banned advert was offensive and unsuitable to appear on the back of a free magazine that could be seen by anyone, including children. [source]

But according to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the headline claim was misleading. The claims appeared to suggest the changes achieved would be permanent, but there was no clear basis of evidence to make the claims. Banned Adverts: Revivo Herbal Tea

The latest list of banned adverts is Revivo Herbal Tea. Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned the tea advert because it claimed to contain 11 Chinese herbs which destroys HIV.

The ASA said in a ruling released this week that the marketers of Revivo tea had produced no credible evidence that the tea had any effect on HIV or Aids.

The banned adverts claimed: "Eleven of them showed significant activity against the HIV virus. Five of them destroyed more than 95 percent of the virus. The safest and most effective of these herbs are contained in Revivo. Shouldn't you know more about Revivo then?"

Interestingly, the website of this banned adverts also claimed Chinese herbal medicine had been treating HIV and Aids successfully "even before HIV and Aids was recognised".

This is one of the most ridiculous banned adverts by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of U.K. The banned Courage Beer ad drew a lot of flaks from the public.

The banned advert of Courage Beer shows a nervous-looking guy sitting on a sofa with a glass and a can of beer. A slighty chubby woman in a figure-hugging dress with the sales label still attached, stood with her big curvy butt facing him. Then there is a so-called naughty slogan which says: "Take courage my friend".

Some members of the public complained that the Courage beer ad poster implied that the beer would give the man confidence or "Dutch courage" to either make negative comments about the woman's appearance or take advantage of her.

But according to the brewers, Wells & Young's, said the slogan of the banned adverts was simply a "call to action" to choose Courage over other beers.

The banned poster for a lap dancing club called Grace. It featured a woman in red undergarment kneeling on the floor, gripping onto a foaming bottle of champagne in her hand and spilling all over the place. Some said that scene as an allusion to a sexual act.

This naughty poster is one of the many other banned posters by UK Advertising Standards Authority, which includes Kylie Minogue writhing on a rodeo machine and Christina Aguilera setting pulses racing as a naughty nurse.

Another one of those banned posters from a movie. This one is from Roger Avary's movie "Rules of Attraction". The banned poster depicts copulating stuffed toys was considered offensive and obscene.

This movie of this banned poster is adapted from a 1987 dark comedy and satirical novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. The novel is about some wild and often sexually promiscuous Bohemian college students at a liberal arts college in 1980s New England.

Banned Posters: Miri And Zack Movie Poster

Talking about banned posters, here is one which was banned for use in US cinemas by the MAPP. It was for the comedy movie "Zack And Miri Make A Porno" written and directed by Kevin Smith of Clerks fame. The main reason of banning this movie poster is downright obvious (no pun intended).

It was reported that many media outlets refused to run the banned posters, or any advert that includes the word "porno" in the title, including a number of newspapers, TV stations and cable channels.

So they came out with a new poster that featured Rogen and Banks in a meadow with animals rendered in the style of children's animated cartoons. If you look carefully, the new poster also took a jab at the controversy banned movie posters, surrounding the use of the word "porno", by including the tagline: "A poster for everyone who finds our movie title hard to swallow".

Banned Adverts: Cow & Gate Milk Formula

This is about the two banned adverts from Cow & Gate’s follow-on baby milk formula and a magazine ad for Milupa Aptamil follow-on milk formula. The Advertising Standards Authority(ASA) have to remove advertising campaigns for two baby milk products for misleading consumers over claims tha they “support a child’s immune system.

According to the ASA the two banned adverts have not enough evidence to support the two baby formula mil adverts’ claims. It received complaint from the National Childbirth Trust that the Cow & Gate ad and Milupa Aptamil misleadingly implied that the follow-on milk could “boost the immune system of children or babies”.

This is another one of my favorite banned TV commercials. Featuring an old lady busy knitting, while her pet cat watches a football match on the telly. Then the cat suddenly acts like a fanatical human football fan; getting all excited over the game. Probably the cat was drinking Bacardi Breezer.

Talking about eating veggies and banned TV adverts, this year PETA's "Veggie Love" for Super Bowl was banned by NBC because they felt it was way too hot, though it is all about eating fresh vegetables.

The notorious veggie banned tv advert by PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals features a bevy of beauties not really eating but flirting and fooling around with all those healthy fresh vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, capiscium, and other green stuff

This is currently one of my favorite banned adverts. The banned posters of the movie "Coco Avant Chanel".

The banned posters depicting actress Audrey Tautou as fashion designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel sitting on a couch in silky pajamas and holding a lighted cigarette in her right hand.

Many were upset over the poster being banned in Paris. Anyway, it is said this fashion icon smoked 50 cigarettes a day.

Banned Adverts: Kentucky Fried Chicken Cruelty By PETA

This is another one of those controversial banned adverts which grilled by PETA. Yes, the famous Kentucky Fried Chicken Cruelty ad. This advert above was banned from Super Bowl.

Well according to Kentucky Fried Cruelty, they say KFC suppliers cram all those fowls into huge waste-filled factories. These birds are bred and drugged so that they would grow large until these birds can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs.

In addition, the birds are still conscious when threy are dumped into tanks of hot scalding water.

Celebrities like sexy chick Pamela Anderson (no pun intended), Sir Paul McCartney and even His Holiness the Dalai Lama and The Rev. Al Sharpton, are calling people all the world over not to eat at KFC.

We don't have the banned adverts, but anyway watch the video clip below featuring the well-endowed sexy chick Pamela Anderson as a spokesperson for Kentucky Fried Chicken Cruelty.

An enraged wife drives straight to the car park of her hubby's golf club. Comes out with a heavy sledge hammer and starts smashing up her supposed husband's fiery-red sports car, while cursing under her breath. Then suddenly, her husband drives up next to her in the same fiery-red sports car, exclaims:"Honey, what were you doing?"!!

Banned Adverts: Lexus And Climate Claims

Here is another one from our banned adverts collection on cars. This time is a national press advertising campaign for a Lexus RX 400h, hybrid four-wheel drive car. It has been banned because of the clime: "perfect for today's climate. (And tomorrow's) ... Driving the world's first luxury hybrid SUV makes environmental, and economic, sense ..."

There are complaints that the car advert misleadingly implied that it caused "little or no harm" to the environment and gave a misleading impression of the car's CO2 emissions in comparison with other vehicles".

Lexus said that it did not claim that the vehicle caused "little or no harm" to the environment, just that it was more environmentally friendly than standard premium SUV vehicles. Whatever it is, this one has shelved as one of those banned adverts. [source]

Banned Adverts: Kane & Lynch Dead Men

Talking about banned adverts, I was blown away when I first saw Kane & Lynch: Death Men poster. But after receiving so many complaints, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)in the UK has banned this "graphic" and "shocking" poster of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men XBox video game.

The ASA ordered the game's publisher, Eidos Interactive not to print or broadcast any ads created for the game again as they were deemed inappropriate for an "untargeted medium."

Eidos's press ad promoting the game - about two violent mercenaries - showed a woman with a gagged and tear-stained face having her head held back by one of the men, who stood behind her pulling her hair and wearing surgical gloves. A second man, who held a rifle with his finger on the trigger, stood behind him.

A TV ad for Kane & Lynch showed scenes involving the two central characters from the game shooting guns among a group of hostages. One of the characters used the butt of his rifle as a club accompanied by the sound of a loud crunch, while another scene showed a man with a bloodied face apparently having his throat cut.

In another Kane & Lynch poster, which read: "Grittier and nastier in tone than anything you've seen before, the violence here is visceral, brutal and very, very real". This was seen by the ASA as possibly "condoning and glorifying real violence.

In its defence over the banned adverts, Eidos said that it had intended the poster image to be "cinematic" but it was not their intention to cause offence. [source]

Banned Adverts: Shell Misleading Claims Of Green Technology

From our banned adverts reports, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has slammed the ad by Shell International. It is said Shell International has made a misleading claim over the company's investment in green technology.

The controversial print ad appeared in the Financial Times in February, carried the headline "We invest today's profits in tomorrow's solutions". The ASA upheld two complaints by WWF that the ad cited two examples of investment which were not environmentally sustainable.

The ASA said the banned adverts must not be reprinted, and Shell said that it will not appear again. [source]

Banned Adverts: Monk, Nun And Italian Ice Cream

Another one of those controversial banned adverts. This time is from Italy. Interestingly, this hot print ad is from Gelato Italiano ice-cream. It supposed to portray the "forbidden Italian temptations".

The banned adverts played on the theme of giving into temptation, but stopped short of showing the nun and priest kissing. This naughty advert appeared only in two magazines, but received many complaints that the suggestion of a kiss between a priest and a nun was offensive.

The publishers told Advertising Standards Authority that they felt the banned advert was unlikely to offend their readers. It was intended as a "light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek portrayal".

Banned Adverts: Tiger Beer And Ladyboy Model

This was one of the banned adverts in 2008. The controversial Tiger Beer print campaign

featured an Asian-looking ladyboy model as the third most desirable Asian "export".

There was an image of a bottle of Tiger Beer in the top left-hand corner labelled as "The Far East's most desirable export since 1932". In the foreground there was a large image of a ladyboy model wearing black stockings, knickers and a bra with a star saying "3rd" placed over his groin area.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the Tiger Beer ad was disrespectful to Asian culture, and the word "export" made a link to sex trafficking. ASA was concerned this print ad could "likely to cause serious or widespread offence".

The naughty Tiger Beer ad appeared on posters and in the Metro and sister freesheet paper London Lite.

But the beer company defended that the banned advert was meant to build on the heritage of the beer, presenting it in the context of "other recognised far eastern exports including ladyboys, tuk tuks, chop sticks and acupuncture. As for the talent in the banned ad, she was "representative of a cabaret performer rather than a prostitute or model".

Banned TV Adverts: Madonna Pepsi Controversy

Remember one of the more popular banned TV adverts twenty years ago (1989) featuring the Queen of Pop Madonna singing her smash hit "Like A Prayer"?

At that time the controverial Cola War was raging and bubbling all over. Pepsi paid Madonna $5M for this 2-minute advert and also sponsored the singer's concert tour for later that year.

But the commercial was pulled out and never screen again, all because an influential church groups in the United States had threatened a mass boycott of Pepsi products, troubled by the Catholic-born star's ongoing flirtation with religious imagery.

I love the ending part of this banned TV adverts where Madonna telling her young self "go ahead, make a wish" - as they both drink Pepsi.

Have you read about the banned TV commercials featuring shirtless rock star Iggy Pop for Swiftcover, an online insurance service?

In the banned TV commercials Swiftcover the pop star laughed and gyrated before the words "car insurance" and "policy" were shown on screen and he said: "I got it Swiftcovered. I got insurance on my insurance."

According to the Advertising Standards Authority(ASA) said that not only does Iggy Pop not have a Swiftcover account, but rock stars could not take out a car insurance policy with the firm. So ASA banned the TV commercial for being misleading.

But the owner of Swiftcover defended that they made no reference to Iggy Pop's profession in the banned ad and had selected him because of his reputation for living life to the full and not because of his job. Iggy Pop is merely a talent promoting the benefits of their car insurance, as if he were a Swiftcover customer in the banned TV commercials. [source]
